My friend, a self-proclaimed Indian food lover, often talks about the curry and naan she had in India, even 15 years later. So, to truly test her love for curry, we ventured to Suembu (수엠부), an Indian restaurant conveniently located right in front of Sogang University's main entrance. This place is also known for its halal food, a great bonus!

The Vibe: A Taste of Nepal in Seoul

Stepping into Suembu feels like entering Nepal. The interior is surprisingly colorful and impeccably clean, creating a unique and welcoming atmosphere. The owner, who is either from India or Nepal, speaks Korean better than I do, which is always a pleasant surprise! It's a place with food and space that truly sounds amazing.

The Menu: An Authentic Indian Feast

Suembu offers a wide variety of Indian and Nepalese cuisine. We ordered a couple's set, which, unlike the typical Korean concept of a couple's set, was incredibly generous in portion. It's perfect for trying a little bit of everything.

Tandoori Chicken

This is a must-try. Even if you've only heard of tandoori chicken but never tasted it, you'll be impressed. It's incredibly flavorful and juicy. Just one piece is enough to fill you up, but there's so much more to enjoy!

Curry & Naan

We chose Chicken Korma, a sweet curry that was effortlessly delicious. The naan, especially the butter naan, was incredibly honeyed when dipped into the curry. And when paired with rice... wow! The portions are generous, ensuring you have plenty of rice and curry.

Samosas

These deep-fried dumplings are like a very full meat dumpling, incredibly satisfying and flavorful.

Lassi

We tried both the Banana Lassi and Strawberry Lassi, and both were incredibly delicious. A perfect refreshing drink to complement the meal.

As a bonus, they even served Indian desserts, which had a unique, slightly sour taste that was new to me. The restaurant also has an amazing packaging system, so we packed up leftover naan and curry and enjoyed it for dinner. It was a truly delicious trip to India!
