Hapjeong Doran, a multinational Hapjeong bar! Atmospheric, quiet, but delicious [Mapo / Hapjeong] HONGDAE, KOREA
A Global Culinary Journey in a Cozy Corner of Hapjeong: Welcome to Doran
There are nights when you yearn for something more than just a bar. You seek a sanctuary, a cozy hideaway where quiet conversations can flow freely, where the ambiance is as delightful as the food. Tucked away in the charming neighborhood of Hapjeong, that perfect haven exists. It's called Doran.

I had passed by Doran countless times on my walks home, its unique exterior always catching my eye. I'd mistakenly guessed it was a place for roasted chicken, but I soon discovered it was something far more special—a multinational bar offering a global menu with a creative Korean touch.

An Ambiance That Whispers "Doran Doran"
The very name "Doran" evokes the Korean expression for intimate, quiet conversation, and the bar embodies this spirit perfectly. The moment you step inside, you're enveloped in a warm, artistic atmosphere.

Though the space isn't large, the tables are generously spaced, allowing for private conversations without feeling crowded. It's the ideal setting for a romantic date or a heartfelt chat with a close friend. The Google Maps reviews don't lie—the ambiance is pure art.

A Menu That Reads Like a Travelogue
Doran's menu is a vibrant and exciting exploration of global cuisine. It's a place where you can find German Schweinshaxe, Thai Leng Saap, and American Cioppino all under one roof, each presented with a unique Korean sensibility.

After much happy deliberation, we chose two dishes that promised a journey of flavors: Chicken Nanban and Cioppino. To accompany our meal, we ordered refreshing Red Rock craft beers.

The Main Acts: A Symphony of Tastes and Textures
The dining experience at Doran is elevated by the staff's passion. Each dish was presented with a detailed explanation of its ingredients and the chef's philosophy, turning the meal into an educational and delightful event.
First, the Chicken Nanban.

The server described it as a dish "standing on the border between Japan and Korea," and it was the perfect description. The crispy chicken was coated in a tangy, savory sauce with a subtle hint of curry powder that gave it a unique, irresistible flavor. The combination of the hot, crispy chicken and the cold, refreshing beer was simply sublime. This is chimac (chicken and beer) on a whole new level.

Next, the Cioppino.

We were told the seafood was delivered fresh that very day, and it showed. The special tomato sauce was a treasure trove of mussels, scallops, clams, and squid, all simmered with fresh vegetables. The flavor was deep and comforting, a taste that seemed to dissolve and evolve with every bite.

Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, they brought out pasta noodles to add to the remaining sauce, ensuring our complete and utter satisfaction. If you're going to have Cioppino, have it at Doran.

A Place to Create Memories
In the rush of daily life, time seems to speed up. To hold onto a moment, you need to fill it with good people, good food, and a good space. Doran is that space. It's a place to make memories.
