I used to only know chicken skewers, but now I've developed a taste for yakitori (Japanese grilled skewers). So, I ventured to Cheongwoldang (청월당), one of the hottest restaurants in Yeonnam-dong. And guess what? They have Asahi draft beer! "Asahi namabiru! Onegaishimasu!" (Asahi draft beer, please!)

The Vibe: Authentic Japanese Izakaya

Cheongwoldang is nestled in a colorful small alley in Yeonnam-dong, occupying 1.5 floors. The many sake bottles displayed in front of the shop subtly hint at its authentic Japanese izakaya identity. The interior, decorated in dark navy tones, is beyond clean – it feels brand new. It has a sophisticated Japanese flavor without being overdone, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The music also plays an important part in enhancing the overall ambiance.

The Menu: Yakitori, Chicken Nanban, and More

Cheongwoldang's menu is clean and focused on yakitori. You can even watch the yakitori being grilled right in front of you, which is a fascinating experience. We ordered six yakitori skewers and Chicken Nanban.

This crispy fried chicken, similar to tonkatsu (pork cutlet), is fried in good oil and pairs perfectly with tartar sauce. It's so good, you'll be surprised by its crispy texture.

The Drinks: Asahi Draft Beer and Mango Highballs

Cheongwoldang offers Asahi Draft Beer, which is perfectly managed, with no fishiness or bitterness – just pure perfection. The Mango Highball was a delightful surprise, with frozen mango adding to its refreshing taste. By the time you finish your highball, the mango will have melted just right, making it a perfect dessert.
